PHILOSOPHY
Greek mythology tells about Rèa, a Titaness, daughter of Uranus and Gaia, sister of Oceanus and Cronus, and mother of all Gods. Rhea’s offspring were doomed to be devoured by their father Cronus, king of the Titans, who was scared by a prophecy predicting that one of his children would overthrow him. Zeus was spared thanks to his mother concealing his birth on the island of Crete, and managed to depose Cronus. Story goes that Rèa stuck her fingers into the earth to alleviate her pain during labour and those holes generated creatures known as Dattili.

Mythology says that Aeolus, Keeper of the Winds, was told by Zeus to control the winds. Aeolus would guide them and set them free, then keep them in the caves and in a wineskin on Lipari. The winds were so strong that they broke Sicily away from the continent, Aeolus had to keep them under control. The Italian king Liparo, overwhelmed by his brothers, fled to an island off the cost of Sicily and named it after himself: Lipari. When he grew old he decided to go back to Italy and left the throne to Aeolus. The famous Ulysses found shelter here after the Trojan war. Aeolus was moved by Ulysses’s story and gave him a wineskin containing all winds adverse to navigation. During the trip only sweet Zephyrus was freed, but while Ulysses was asleep, the rest of the crew opened the wineskin assuming it was filled with treasures, and the winds caused a frightening storm…
